Holy Communion is celebrated on the first, third, and fifth Sundays, as well as on major holy Days.
Additionally, special services are held on Christmas and during Holy Week. Contact us for times.
Proper Communion Practice:
First, Holy Communion requires a proper understanding of The Real Presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in order to be received to the communicant's benefit. Those who eat and drink unworthily, that is, without a proper faith in the Real Presence, fail to discern the Lord's body, and thus eat and drink judgment upon themselves. See 1 Corinthians 11:27-32.
Second, Holy Communion is a testimony to the unity of faith of those who commune together at the same altar. Church fellowship, according to Scripture, is fellowship in the Truth; and that means mutual confession of the same doctrine. Thus, the idea that there can be church fellowship based on basic doctrines, while there is doctrinal diversity on any number of other matters, is unscriptural, and unchristian. See Romans 16:17.
Therefore, we at Our Redeemer invite to our altar the confirmed, communing members of our congregation, and of other congregations in Altar and Pulpit Fellowship with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. We also offer biblical and doctrinal instruction to anyone who wishes to be united in fellowship with us. Once a person has been instructed in the faith and confesses that faith publicly by becoming a communicant member, they are joyfully admitted to the Lord's Table with us.
Why do we do this when many other churches are so loose and casual about it? First we do it out of love for those who would eat and drink judgment upon themselves by partaking without a proper faith. We do it out of reverence for the Body and Blood of Christ given in the Sacrament. And we do it out of love for God's Word which is to be believed, taught, and confessed without the admixture of faith destroying error.
